Crosshouse Primary welcomes nursery pupils from Gargieston after mine discovery closes school
19 AugustCrosshouse Primary School will welcome an intake of new pupils from Monday 23rd August, with the arrival of nursery classes from nearby Gargieston Primary School.
The youngsters are being forced to move to their temporary home after the unexpected advice of building contractors and engineers to vacate the site, after initial survey work discovered a series of shallow mine workings in the vicinity of the proposed new Gargieston school.
Pupils from Gargieston are being decanted to four other local schools, including Shortlees, Bellfield and Grange Campus.
These arrangements have been made taking into account travel distance, the need to minimise the number of locations used and the impact for both Gargieston and the receiving schools. Priority has been given to keeping the pupils and staff of Gargieston Primary within their own Learning Community.
Transport arrangements to take pupils to and from the are currently being finalised and will be announced as soon as possible.
