Crosshouse: Jack Connelly's Memories from the Village

by Jack Connelly

Hello, this is my first post. My name is Jack Connelly. I was born at 21 Annandale Crescent and left for Canada in 1966.I have a multitude of memories from the Village so I will only post a few at a time.

The Village was a great place to grow up, last year I was home on a visit and my auld pal Bobby Howie and I at my request took a visit to the boolin club.I met a few old faces of people I grew up with and had a great time. One of our topics was football teams in the Village, when I say teams these consisted of players from around the different areas of the Village. Since I was born in the Crescent that was my team. We had Andrew Deans, Hughie Deans and brother Wull who we never wanted to play so he would kick the ball into the Carmel. Hughie Ferguson, Billy Craig, Jack McGovern and others. We had a good bunch of players. Carmelbank had their team, I remember Hugh Kyle and Jim McVie. The Playingfield or just Planey boys had their team with the Frews and Milligans and wee Jock Hamilton being the mainstays. Woodbank had their team with the Cooks, Corbett's Billy Shephard Lauchlan Connelly to name a few being their players. A few of the names here are no longer with us but these fellas were part of my growing up and my hat is off to them. If anyone in the Village wants to contact me my 'e' mail is scone@rogers.com.

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
