A (very) brief history of Crosshouse

Here are just a few historical dates:

19th Century - Crosshouse village built for workers in the surrounding coal mines
4 April 1843 - Busby railway station opened, closed 15th April 1850
29th August 1862 - Andrew Fisher born in the village, he becomes the fifth Prime Minister of Australia, serving three terms between 1908 and 1915
1 September 1872 - Busby station reopened as Crosshouse railway station
Sunday 19 March 1882 - Crosshouse Parish Church built
1902 - Addition to Parish Church vestry
22 October 1928 - Andrew Fischer died
1946 - St. Pauls Roman Catholic School in Knockentiber closed
18 April 1966 - Railway station closed permanently to passengers
1977 - Massey-Ferguson tractor plant at Moorfield entered receivership
2 June 1984 - Crosshouse Hospital opened by the Secretary of State for Scotland, George Younger
1990's - Old Crosshouse School demolished

Above are just a few important dates - there's far more to the heritage of Crosshouse. There's a lot of interest in local history, and lots and lots of local knowledge. Andrew Law was born in Crosshouse and he was an artist painter. He was a student at the same time as George Rene McIntosh. He painted various pictures and was asked by Kilmarnock Burgh to paint each Provost over a 10 year period. Those paintings are kept by East Ayrshire Council at the Dick Institute Kilmarnock.

I wasn't born in Crosshouse I was born in Irvine. I did't know there was as much history in Crosshouse village interesting to know.

My granpa was born in Crosshouse to a farm worker called Barbour. He was born in 1895 and was adopted to a family from Windyha's called Paterson. I am looking for anyone with information about Barbours from Crosshouse. Email davemarz @tiscali.co.uk

Can someone tell me where Windyha's was/is? Kinda curious about the above comment and been researching Crosshouse and can't find any mention of it. Was it somewhere else? Was it a farm? Any information gratefully received. hettiecd@hotmail.com

i would like to know where parkers land was in the 1800's as i have relatives who died and were born there. I would also like to thank heather dunlop for all the research she gave me about my g.grandmother and generations none of which i could have done myself. any info on p/land c/house. thanku bette marshall. email davemarz@tiscali.co.uk

Re: Andrew Law - did you know that he was born in the same property as Andrew Fisher?  He was born in 1873 and died in 1967.  He wasn't a really 'popular' artist, as such, because he didn't follow the trends of the time (e.g. like Charles Rennie Mackintosh - not my first choice although I know many people like his art), preferring to stick to traditional paintings (which I definitely prefer!).  He won an award which allowed him to study abroad and he chose to do so in Paris for 6 months.
